Three reasons to visit the Maytime this bank holiday

Hey hey, it’s Wednesday! Which means the three day weekend is oh-so-near. While having an extra lie-in is always a happy prospect, this one is tinged with a slight sadness with the knowledge that it’s the last bank holiday before Christmas, which of course means that the summer is drawing to a close.
So we know you want to make the most of this one. BBQs, festivals and DIY are all plans you might have, and all these activities have their cases to be made… but whatever you do we think you should include a visit to the pub. Come rain or shine it wouldn’t be a bank holiday without some good pub-time. However, if you’re still umming and ahhing about finding the time to see us between visiting in-laws and taking the kids to walk around, to quote Alan Partridge “A local fort or Victorian Folley” here is a reason for each day of the bank holiday to visit the Maytime.
Play a game of boules in our garden
If the sun shines there is no better way to spend a lazy bank holiday then by playing a few rounds of pétanque with those you love, or just those you don’t hate. It’s a relaxing game for the whole family that is infinitely improved by a few glasses of wine. If you’ve never played before here is our definitive guide to the rules.
Board games
If the weather is not so good, then hide yourself away in the bar with one of the board games we have in our collection. We’ve got all the classics, so find yourself a cosy corner get a round in and a few packets of crisps and whittle away…we’d recommend a minimum of three to four hours. Just try not to get violent with your mates over Monopoly.
Roast and Quiz
Finally, as you are allowed to stay out extra late on Sunday, why not spend the whole day in Asthall? Go for a walk around the picturesque hills in the morning meandering around the desolate paths created by the ebb and flow of the River Windrush. Then once you have worked yourself up a healthy appetite head to the Maytime Inn for one of our famous Sunday roasts. Then from 730pm, we have our monthly pub quiz with a load of great prizes. We recommend booking for the quiz as it’s usually very popular.
